Prior to the arrival of officers, the suspect, 44-year-old Yunier Aldazabal, had fled the area in a vehicle. At approximately 9:00 AM, officers located the vehicle with the suspect inside, parked in a parking lot in the 2800 block of W. Irving Blvd, at the Plymouth West shopping center where the Irving Bazaar is located. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

During the investigation, it was learned that the victim and suspect were in a dating relationship.  Family members posting on social media referred to Gomez as the ex-wife of Aldazabal.  In either case, the relationship had ended recently.

A neighbor familiar with the situation stated that Aldazabal had previously threatened Gomez' life.

Gomez was been a teacher in her native, Holguin, Cuba, before immigrating to the United States.  She leaves behind two children, aged 12 and 15.

Aldazabal, a Cuban immigrant, also faces an ICE hold from INS Dallas/Fort Worth due to his illegal status in the country.

The investigation is in the early stages and ongoing.
