Former Argyler Fire Chief Sentenced to 50 Months in Federal Prison

On Thursday, August 1, 2024, at the U.S. Courthouse - Eastern District in Plano, Texas, U.S. Judge Robert Schroeder sentenced Troy Mac Hohenberger, the former Fire Chief of the Argyle Volunteer Fire District, to 50 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Hohenberger was also ordered to pay restitution totaling $509,807.50 to Denton County Emergency Services District No. 1.

Hohenberger had pleaded guilty in May 2023 to charges arising from an investigation and arrest by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on November 17, 2022. The indictment had originally included 13 counts related to misuse and theft of funds from the Argyle Fire District, Inc., and making false statements to the Department of Labor.

Since January 2023, the Denton County ESD No. 1 Board of Commissioners, new Fire Chief, and Administrative Staff have been focused on restoring the financial integrity of the fire district and ensuring future accountability and transparency. The sentencing represents a significant step in the Board's commitment to maintaining public service integrity.

Denton County ESD No. 1 expressed appreciation to the U.S. Department of Justice for their efforts in resolving the case.
