Irving Announces Free Adoptions for Clear the Shelters Month

Irving Animal Services is offering free pet adoptions throughout August as part of the nationwide Clear the Shelters (CTS) campaign, which marks its 10th year. The event, running until September 10, aims to save the lives of thousands of pets.

To celebrate Clear the Shelters Day, Irving Animal Services will host a special event on Saturday, August 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Irving Animal Care Campus, located at 4140 Valley View Lane. The day will feature family activities and a food truck.

All pets adopted during this event will be:

  • Up-to-date on vaccinations, including rabies for animals over 4 months old
  • Spayed or neutered
  • Given a general dewormer and treated for fleas and ticks
  • Microchipped and registered with 24PetWatch
  • Heartworm tested for dogs over 4 months old or FeLV/FIV tested for cats over 4 months old

Irving residents adopting a pet will also receive a free spay/neuter voucher for additional pets, along with a goodie bag containing:

  • A $250 voucher to VCA Pet Hospital
  • A free starter bag of cat or dog food
  • A pet toy, dog or cat treats, and a bandana

New pet owners are advised to prepare their homes by securing garbage cans, removing hazardous decorations, and keeping toxic foods, pet-unfriendly plants, and dangerous items out of reach. Essential items for new pets include a carrier or crate, leashes, harnesses, collars, food and water dishes, toys, grooming tools, and appropriate food and treats.
