The new Central Fire Station in the Irving Heritage District is nearing its reopening at 137 E. Second St., following over two years of planning, public input, design, and construction. The station is built on the site of the former “Old Central” building, which operated from 1932 to 1985. The design of the new station reflects the historic charm of its neighboring Heritage Senior Center with features such as arched bay door frames, dark bricks, and limestone accents.

The new building incorporates elements of its predecessor, including wharf lighting and a dedicated space for Irving Fire Department artifacts. It will also include a public viewing area for historic pieces and firefighter memorabilia. A future memorial space honoring past generations of firefighters is planned for the east side of the facility.

The two-story, $8 million station includes living quarters on the ground level, sleeping quarters upstairs, and two brass fire poles for quick access to emergency vehicles. It will house a crew of four firefighters and a fire engine. Strategically located between Fire Stations No. 1, 2, and 3, the new station aims to enhance staff support and reduce response times for residents in the surrounding areas.
