Fort Worth Police Sgt. Billy Randolph was laid to rest on Saturday following emotional funeral services held at Christ Chapel Bible Church.
Officers from the Irving Police Department were present to show their support. “Today, we stood shoulder to shoulder & patch to patch as officers across the state honored a fallen brother in blue. May he rest in peace and never be forgotten for his ultimate sacrifice," the department stated.
Numerous police agencies from across Texas joined in honoring Sgt. Randolph.
Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes spoke at the service, saying, “As we remember Billy Randolph, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy of love, service, and strength. The compliment I’m hearing the most is the highest compliment one police officer can give another. They say ‘Billy was a cop’s cop.’”
Last Wednesday evening, a vigil was held in the Fort Worth Police Department's South Division parking lot. Scores of residents, fellow officers from around the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and local officials gathered to pay their respects.
Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker said, “Fort Worth gathered as one united community to honor the life and sacrifice of a brave soul who gave everything to protect us. May we find strength in unity and comfort in the legacy of Sgt. Randolph.”
Sgt. Randolph, a 29-year veteran of the Fort Worth Police Department, was killed while working a crash scene on I-35W southbound near Sycamore School Road. The interstate had been shut down for approximately three hours due to an 18-wheeler crash that caused a spill. Randolph was standing on the exit ramp when De Aujalae Evans, 25, of Fort Worth, drove the wrong way up the exit ramp and struck him. Despite officers rushing Randolph to JPS Hospital, he was pronounced deceased.
