DART to Begin Second Phase of Silver Line Testing from Waterview Parkway to Shiloh Road on August 25

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) will start a second phase of vehicle testing on the Silver Line Regional Rail alignment on Sunday, August 25. This testing will focus on Segment C of the project, which spans from Waterview Parkway to Shiloh Road Station. Testing will take place daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Flaggers will be stationed at rail crossings as required by Federal Railroad Administration guidelines to assist drivers and pedestrians. Engineers and rail crews will be testing the timing and functionality of gates, lights, and warning signals to ensure safety for both freight and commuter rail services.

Trey Walker, DART Vice President of Capital Design and Construction, emphasized the importance of safety during this testing period. “Safety for the public, our operators, and employees is the top priority,” Walker said. He added that thorough reviews and adjustments will be made to ensure safe travel through the corridor.

Both Silver Line vehicles and CPKC freight trains will be running on the tracks during the testing phase. Freight rail service will continue to operate during its usual hours, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., after the testing is completed.

Testing will simulate the Silver Line’s route with stops at 12th Street, CityLine/Bush, and UT Dallas stations. No passenger pick-ups or drop-offs will occur at these stations, which remain under construction. Quiet zones will not be in effect during the testing period.
