Dallas County Sheriff's Office Warns of Jury Duty Scam

The Dallas County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning to residents about a scam targeting individuals across the county. Recently, several Dallas County residents, particularly elderly individuals, have been deceived by fraudulent phone calls and emails. These communications falsely claim that the recipient has failed to comply with a jury summons for federal, state, or county courts and threaten prosecution if a fine is not paid immediately.

The Sheriff's Office clarifies that these calls and emails are not associated with Dallas County Courts or the Sheriff's Department. Scammers often impersonate court officials, Dallas County Sheriff's Deputies, or local police officers, exerting pressure on recipients to pay fines or disclose sensitive personal information. This can lead to identity theft and other forms of fraud.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Dallas County Courts do not make phone calls or send emails requesting payment, social security numbers, credit card information, or any other sensitive data. All official court communications regarding jury duty will be conducted through U.S. mail. It is illegal for anyone to falsely present themselves as a peace officer or public servant.

Residents who receive such suspicious communications should not provide any personal information or make any payments. Instead, they are advised to contact Dallas County Jury Services at 214-653-3593 for verification and assistance.
