48-Year-Old Man Struck by School Bus Mirror in Saginaw, Bus Driver's Quick Reflexes Saved Pedestrian

At approximately 6:20 AM on Thursday, August 22, 2024, Saginaw Police officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of North Saginaw Blvd in response to a vehicle and pedestrian accident. Upon arrival, officers observed an Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD bus stopped in the roadway. The bus driver had exited the bus and was assisting a 48-year-old white male, dressed in dark-colored clothing, who was lying on the ground.

According to initial reports, the male had been walking southbound in the left turn lane when the bus entered the lane, not seeing the pedestrian. The bus driver swerved to avoid hitting the male, but the mirror bracket struck him on the back of the head. The male was transported to JPS Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The bus was only occupied by the driver at the time of the incident, and no students were involved. The investigation is ongoing, but no criminal charges are expected.
