Fort Worth’s FY 2025 Budget to Include New Community Center and Renovated Golf Course

Fort Worth's Park & Recreation Department's recommended budget of $72.7 million for Fiscal Year 2025 includes the opening of a new community center in the rapidly growing northwest sector of the city and the reopening of Meadowbrook Golf Course after a comprehensive renovation.

Northwest Community Center Set to Open

The Northwest Community Center will receive funding for additional staffing in the FY25 budget, ensuring it is fully staffed and ready to open next year. Current staff members have already engaged with the community to develop programs based on local feedback. The new center will feature several meeting rooms, a culinary kitchen, a state-of-the-art fitness room, a group fitness room, a basketball gym, and more.

Residents can expect a variety of classes and activities, including tai chi, floorball, art classes, soccer skills, ballet, tap, tumbling, gardening, bingo, and more. An after-school program will also be available. For more information, residents can contact Victoria Leach.

Meadowbrook Golf Course Renovation

A complete $13 million renovation of Meadowbrook Golf Course, located on Fort Worth's east side, is underway. The project includes rerouting the course, installing a new irrigation system, expanding and renovating parking areas, and creating a new putting green and short-game practice area. The golf course, originally acquired by the City in 1938, is slated to reopen in the summer of 2025.

Changes to Community Center Management

Beginning October 1, all community centers in Fort Worth will be managed by the Park & Recreation Department, consolidating responsibilities that were previously divided between the Park & Recreation Department and the Neighborhood Services Department. This merger aims to enhance customer service, improve efficiency, and provide a unified approach to managing the city’s community centers. It will also streamline operations and improve coordination with partner organizations, including nonprofits and other government agencies.

Next Steps

The City Council is scheduled to vote on the FY 2025 budget on September 17, following a series of budget workshops and a public hearing. The new fiscal year will commence on October 1. Community members are encouraged to share their feedback during open houses being held in each council district starting this week.
