Richardson Officer Fatally Shoots Armed Suspect During Domestic Violence Incident

On August 25, 2024, at 4:11 a.m., officers from the Richardson Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of Fair Oaks Drive following reports of a domestic violence incident in progress. The victim reported that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, who was armed with a weapon.

Upon arrival, the first responding officer located the suspect in the garage, holding a large knife. Despite issuing repeated, loud verbal commands to drop the weapon, the suspect ignored these instructions. He then exited the garage and moved through the backyard towards the officer, causing her to retreat.

The suspect approached a parked pickup truck in the rear driveway, reached inside, and then suddenly turned toward the officer while brandishing the knife in a threatening manner. The officer responded by discharging her firearm once, striking the suspect in the upper body.

Officers provided emergency medical assistance until paramedics arrived. The suspect was then transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

In line with departmental policy, the officer has been placed on administrative leave. The Dallas County District Attorney has been notified of the incident. The officer involved has been with the Richardson Police Department for two years.
