Irving Assistant Fire Chief Rich Stewart has been selected as the next Fire Chief of Lubbock Fire Rescue. The Irving Professional Fire Fighters Association (IPFFA) expressed their bittersweet sentiment, stating, "While we’re sad to lose him as Assistant Chief here in Irving, we’re excited to see him take the next step in his professional career. The citizens of Lubbock, Lubbock Fire Department, and Lubbock Professional Firefighters Association are lucky to have him!"

According to Lubbock Fire Rescue, Richard Stewart is the sole finalist for the position of Fire Chief. With nearly 30 years of experience, Stewart has served as Assistant Chief in the Irving Fire Department. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance, a Fire Service Chief Executive Officer Certificate from Texas A&M University, a Certified Fire Executive Certificate from the Texas Fire Chiefs Association, and is a graduate of the Fire Service Executive Development Institute.
