Man Charged After Road Rage Shooting Hits 2-Year-Old in East Dallas

Jason Cain

Late Sunday, August 25th, Dallas Police officers responded to reports of a shooting around 8:15 PM on the 8500 block of Sweetwater Drive in East Dallas, near Ferguson Road and Lakeland Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered that shots had been fired into a vehicle, striking a 2-year-old child inside.

Dallas Police have now determined that the incident was related to road rage. The suspect has been identified as 50-year-old Jason Cain of Dallas. Jacqueline Garcia, her 2-year-old daughter, and the girl’s father were in their car delivering DoorDash when they had a near-collision with a motorcycle. After honking at each other, Cain turned around, drew a gun, and fired into the car, hitting the child. The child remains hospitalized in stable condition following emergency surgery.

Witnesses reported seeing a motorcycle with a sidecar containing a dog following a gray sedan around the time of the shooting. They were also able to identify Cain as the shooter since he resides in the neighborhood. Before being identified, Cain told officers at the scene that he had seen drug dealers involved in the shooting down the street. When officers arrived at Cain's home, he initially resisted arrest but eventually complied. Investigators also obtained video evidence of the incident. Cain has been charged with one count of injury to a child and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
