Abilene Inmate Sentenced to 99 Years for Assault on Correctional Officer

Daniel Ledesma

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice announced on August 30, 2024, that 40-year-old inmate Daniel Ledesma has been sentenced to 99 years in prison. Ledesma was convicted of felony Assault on a Public Servant, Assault of a Government Contractor, and Taking a Weapon from an Officer.

The charges stemmed from an incident at the Robertson Unit in Abilene, where Ledesma assaulted a Correctional Officer after refusing a pat search. At the time, Ledesma was already serving a 30-year sentence for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (knife) since 2012, following his original sentencing in Tarrant County. He was set to be eligible for parole in March 2027.

The new 99-year sentence will run consecutively to his current sentence, which also includes convictions for home invasion and assaulting a police officer. The Office of Inspector General and Special Prosecution Unit were acknowledged for their efforts in the case.
