Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for North Dallas Murder and Assault on Police Officers

Jordan Owens

Jordan Owens was sentenced to life in prison for capital murder and 50 years for each of seven counts of aggravated assault following a dramatic series of events in North Dallas.

In October 2023, Owens, along with several co-defendants, orchestrated a robbery at an apartment in North Dallas. Two of the co-defendants, who knew the victim, deceived him into allowing them into his apartment. They then let Owens and another accomplice enter. Once inside, Owens brandished a gun and shot the victim during the robbery. The suspects fled with the stolen goods.

Dallas Police Department (DPD) investigators used surveillance footage from the apartment complex and nearby businesses to track Owens' movements. Video evidence showed Owens entering and leaving the complex, corroborated by cell phone records and social media interactions linking him to the crime.

On November 16, 2023, after a warrant was issued, the U.S. Marshal’s Service North Texas Task Force located Owens at a Dallas apartment complex. When officers attempted to execute the arrest, Owens fired a fully automatic .357 Glock, injuring one officer and nearly hitting several others. The officers returned fire, wounding Owens. He was apprehended and taken to the hospital.

Owens pleaded guilty to all charges. He was sentenced to life in prison for the capital murder and received an additional 50-year sentence for each count of aggravated assault.
