On Saturday, September 14, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Dallas Police and Fire Rescue responded to a three-vehicle crash on the southbound lanes of Interstate 45 near Simpson Stuart Road. A preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle traveling northbound on Interstate 45 collided with a second vehicle. The impact caused the first vehicle to cross the median, enter the southbound lanes, and strike two other vehicles before crashing into the guardrail and flipping over.
Three people inside the first vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle involved in the northbound collision self-transported to a local hospital.
Both drivers of the vehicles struck in the southbound lanes were transported to local hospitals. One of the drivers died at the hospital, while the condition of the other driver remains unknown.
Southbound lanes of Interstate 45 were closed while Dallas police conducted their investigation.
