18-Wheeler Driver Arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter After Fatal Crash in Fort Worth

At 1:27 a.m. on Thursday, September 19th, Fort Worth dispatch responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting an accident near West Loop 820 and White Settlement Road. The crash involved an 18-wheeler that struck several vehicles, trapping one person inside.

Preliminary investigation reveals that construction in the area had forced all northbound traffic into a single lane. As traffic came to a stop, the driver of an 18-wheeler failed to control his speed, causing a collision with multiple vehicles.

One person in a vehicle struck by the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The 24-year-old driver of the 18-wheeler was also transported to the hospital, where DWI officers performed field sobriety tests. They determined he was intoxicated. The driver was arrested and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter with a Vehicle and Intoxicated Assault with a Vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
