Fort Worth Man Sentenced to 80 Years for Killing Driver in Random Shooting

FORT WORTH, Texas - A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to 80 years in prison for killing a driver after opening fire on a passing vehicle in Fort Worth during the early morning hours of New Year's Eve 2023.

A Tarrant County jury found Antonio Baker guilty of murder in the death of 34-year-old Deandre Deshon Dotson.

The shooting happened around 3 a.m. Dec. 31, 2023, in the 5700 block of Eastland Street.

According to prosecutors, Baker was riding in the back seat of a vehicle with a group of people when he decided to shoot at another vehicle as it passed.

The gunfire struck Dotson, who was driving the other vehicle.

Fort Worth police found Dotson critically wounded. He was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Detectives with the Fort Worth Police Department investigated the shooting and identified Baker as the gunman.

Baker was arrested Jan. 27, 2024, and charged with murder. He remained in custody at the Tarrant County Corrections Center after he was denied bond.

Following his murder conviction, the court sentenced Baker to 80 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Tarrant County prosecutors Matthew Jackson and Emily Dixon prosecuted the case. District Attorney investigator Josh Neiswender assisted with the prosecution.
