Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Murder of Uber Driver in North Richland Hills

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to murdering an Uber driver who arrived to pick him up in North Richland Hills.

Kane Roden pleaded guilty to murder earlier this week in the May 7, 2025, shooting death of 60-year-old Tahirou Diallo, according to the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office.

The shooting happened early that morning in the 8000 block of Mickey Street.

Prosecutors said Roden ordered an Uber to the location. When Diallo arrived to pick him up, Roden, who prosecutors described as highly intoxicated, pulled out a gun and shot him.

Diallo died from the gunshot wound.

North Richland Hills police investigated the killing, with Detective Joe West working the case.

"This case deeply impacted our department as we helped seek justice for Mr. Tahirou Diallo," the North Richland Hills Police Department said in a statement. "Mr. Diallo was a respected community member who touched many lives."

Prosecutors said Diallo was widely regarded as a pillar of his community.

During the court proceedings, a letter from Diallo's widow was read aloud. She wrote that Roden's guilty plea could not bring her husband back, but it ensured Roden "is off the streets ... and won't hurt anyone else."

Roden had a criminal history dating back years before Diallo's murder, according to prosecutors.

Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Bill Vassar and Tyler Coleman prosecuted the case. District Attorney investigator Caleb Blank and victim coordinator CeCe Jones also worked on the case.
