LEWISVILLE, Texas - A man has been arrested after police say he opened fire during an altercation between two groups outside a Lewisville restaurant Sunday evening, leaving two people wounded.

Lewisville police identified the accused gunman as Leonel Consuelos Rocha Jr.

Officers responded around 6:49 p.m. Sept. 6 to a restaurant in the 1200 block of South State Highway 121 Business after receiving a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds inside a nearby business where they had taken refuge after the shooting.

Both men were transported to area hospitals. Police said they are expected to survive.

Investigators determined the shooting happened in the parking lot behind the restaurant. Surveillance video showed an altercation between members of two separate groups before gunfire erupted, according to police.

Investigators said Rocha displayed a handgun and shot two people in the opposing group. He is also accused of pointing the gun at a third person who was not shot.

The group associated with Rocha fled after the shooting, police said.

Officers used a Flock automatic license plate reader to identify the vehicle connected to the suspects. Detectives then used surveillance video, interviews with witnesses and victims, and other investigative resources to identify Rocha as the suspected shooter.

Later that evening, Rocha surrendered to Lewisville police and was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Lewisville City Jail.

Rocha faces three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Two counts involve the men who were shot, while the third involves the person police say had a handgun pointed at them.

He is also charged with tampering with evidence in connection with the disposal of the handgun used in the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the Lewisville Police Department at 972-219-3640 or Crime Stoppers at 972-219-8477.
