Irving ISD Hall of Famer and Former Nimitz Player Kerry Cooks joins Oklahoma staff

Cooks has been defensive back coach at Notre Dame, Cooks joined the Oklahoma Sooners after National Signing Day. Cooks is well-known across Texas high school football. He was instrumental in connecting South Oak Cliff defensive back to sign with the Sooners for the Class of 2015.

A 1993 graduate of Nimitz, Cooks was the Vikings’  MVP, All-District and an All-DFW selection at defensive back.

Cooks played four seasons at (1993-97) where he earned all Big Ten honors. He played in the National Football League for the Minnesota Vikings and for Green Bay, Atlanta and Jacksonville. He returned to Nimitz to coach in 2003.

Cooks headed to college coaching at Kansas State, Western Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. He was co-defensive coordinator at Notre Dame and helped lead the Irish to the National Championship game in 2012-13.
