Irving Hosts Byron Nelson Championship This Week
2008 Byron Nelson Champion Adam Scott
The 2009 HP Byron Nelson Championship tournament is being held this week, May 18-24, 2009 (Monday-Sunday) in Irving, Texas. The purse will be $6.5 million, and the winner will receive $1,170,000.

The Byron Nelson Championship continues as one of the best stops on the PGA TOUR, not only for its field, but because of the charitable contribution it makes that benefits the Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers (SCYFC) . We can thank Byron Nelson for that legacy. His unwavering commitment to this tournament and the good it does for children and families was unprecedented in the game.

The 2008 tournament raised 6.114 USD million for charity – the seventh time in Championship history that the annual contribution has exceeded the 6 USD million mark. The 2008 year's results bring the total contribution to over 107 USD million more than any other event on the PGA TOUR.

For the 2008 championship, a world-class hospitality environment was created to strengthen customer relationships, support the charitable nature of the tournament and provid hundreds of employee volunteer opportunities.

The 2009 championship promises to continue to build on these accomplishments while adding several innovations.

The main entrance to the tournament is Champions Way. Fans will walk up Champions Way and upon entering the merchandise tent will see an HP created interactive display area showcasing its latest product offerings. Additionally, the newly created KidsZone will be equipped with HP equipment allowing students from invited schools as well as the children of spectators to use the equipment including: gaming platforms, Web cams and photo printers.

Although the tournament may provide a festive environment, the business of business does not stop. This year HP will create Business Centers in select venues to allow for e-mail access, printing, faxing and other business services. The media center will also see the proliferation of HP products to include printers, faxes, photo printers and a showcase of the latest in HP products and services for the working media to test drive.

Efforts are being implemented to make the tournament even more “green” than its award winning efforts in 2008. As many of the printed materials distributed to sponsors and media will be no longer printed but delivered digitally via memory sticks. Discussions are also ongoing to create special offers to the fans for the disposal of e-waste at locations around the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
