FC Dallas Forward Kenny Cooper Transferred to 1860 Munich
FC Dallas today announced that forward Kenny Cooper has been transferred to TSV 1860 Munich of the Second Bundesliga.
Cooper leaves the team after three and half years with his hometown club. Some of Cooper's highlights while with FC Dallas include being the second leading goal scorer in club history with 40 goals, starting 86 of the 90 games in which he appeared, MLS All-Star, MLS Best XI, Comeback Player of the year and Team MVP. And most recently while with the U.S. Men's National Team for the Gold Cup Tournament, Cooper was one of only four U.S. players to be named to the All-Tournament team.
For Cooper's career, this is an awesome opportunity, but for Dallas fans it's a sad day. What we must understand is that this is great for the league and the team. FC Dallas will, reportedly, get a two million dollar transfer fee. The league gets respect when a high-caliber team like 1860 Munich goes after an american player from the MLS. Sure, 1860 Munich plays in the Second Bundesliga, but they are one of the founding members of the Bundesliga and are preparing for a strong run this season to gain promotion to the top league again.
This move will give an opportunity to other FC Dallas players that have been waiting for their chance. One such player is Avila who has been playing great off the bench.
