Irving Loses a Close Game Against South Grand Prairie
Demetrius Thompson rushed for 169 yards and had touchdowns rushing and receiving as South Grand Prairie held off Irving in a District 7-5A game.
Irving missed a 54-yard field goal attempt as time expired.
South Grand Prairie (3-4, 1-2) went ahead, 10-7, with 38 seconds remaining in the third quarter on Jared Johnson's 1-yard TD pass to Thompson. It extended the lead to 17-7 with 7:50 left on Johnson's 2-yard keeper.
Irving cut the deficit to 17-14 with 4:21 remaining when Kendrick Daniels scored on a 1-yard run.
Two plays later, Thompson broke a tackle and ran 78 yards for the score, making it 24-14 with 3:22 remaining in the game.
