Nimitz Downs the Gophers 35-26
The Vikings solidified their chances of making the playoffs this year after holding off a late come-back by the Grand Prairie Gophers.
Nimitz scored three second-quarter touchdowns to build a 35-point lead.
Courtney McGown put Nimitz (7-2, 4-1 District 7-5A) on the board with a 3-yard touchdown run with 1:44 left in the first quarter. Nimitz broke the game open in the second quarter on a 25-yard touchdown pass from JJ Gaines to Darrell Dozier, a 10-yard run by Gaines and a 25-yard pass from Adam Charles to Jarret Franco on a fake field goal.
Nimitz also scored on its opening possession of the second half and then held off a late charge by Grand Prairie (1-6, 1-3).
Nimitz overcame 130 yards in penalties and six turnovers in the win.
