What The Dallas Cowboys Need To Do For The New Season
The Dallas Cowboys enjoyed a mixed season last year. This could be said for the last decade, in all honesty, but what can the Cowboys do to help elevate themselves to new levels? In particular, what can bring playoff success and even Super Bowl success? Read on as we cover a few different things the Dallas Cowboys should do for the next season.
Improve Their Defense
It is often said that the best offense comes in the form of a good defense. In the Cowboys’ case, this is certainly true. While they had mixed results last season, fans and pundits would both agree that the Cowboys need to improve their running defense. In particular, they should pay some attention to the interior.
Demarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory are no strangers to defending, but the overall defensive line itself often let opposing players get through last year, and that’s something that needs to change. To that end, the Cowboys will benefit from strengthening their defensive front. This could be through additional players, or defensive coaches. That takes us nicely to the next section.
Hire More Specific Coaches
Something that the Cowboys have lacked for a few years now, comes in the form of specific coaches. In particular, the Cowboys have struggled with how they run the clock. They would certainly benefit from hiring a specific coach to help manage the clock and time. They need an effective clock management strategy in place, to help run down games and drive up wins, especially in the early season.
Last season, the Cowboys particularly struggled with clock management, with some plays that seemed ill-thought out and just random. Having someone hired to manage this, or giving this role to a dedicated coach, will help the Cowboys out. There are, of course, other coaches and tactics that could do with some special help. It’s just that this is one area of the Cowboys game that needs the most attention. That, and the lead running back role. Get a coach to help Tony Pollard out here and the Cowboys will solve a lot of problems.
Support Dak Prescott
NFL fans, not just Cowboy fans, will be familiar with the name Dak Prescott. Prescott was looking like an MVP candidate at the start of last year, but something happened that led to a slump and reduced levels of performance. What is the reason for this? Truthfully, it could be any number of things. It may be that he never felt confident again following his calf strain injury last year, or there could be other personal reasons.
Whatever the reason, it will be important for the Cowboys to support Prescott in whatever way they can. Not only should the team and coaches do this, but the fans should too! It’s easy for fans to look at Prescott’s high salary and expect more, but with the right support, he can join the greats and help take the Cowboys further. Maybe the Cowboys can take a page out of their fellow statesmen, the Mavericks, with how they manage their team. You only have to look at the NBA finals odds to see how well run and supported that organization is!
Trust Mike McCarthy
Head coach Mike McCarthy also comes with pedigree. The coach, who has been with the Cowboys since the start of the 2020 season, and after a mixed start to the season due to the pandemic, he started to find his feat. If you didn’t know, head coach Mike McCarthy was in charge of the Green Bay Packers for over a decade, as he won the Super Bowl back in 2011.
So Mike has shown that he has the skills to make it happen, the team and the fans just need to give him that extra bit of trust to help him get over the line. While Mike may have made some mistakes during the wild-card loss to the 49ers, he will have surely learned from these mistakes. There are a lot of coaches in and around the team that are familiar with Mike, and perhaps McCarthy needs to throw his weight around a bit more when it comes to enforcing decisions. Only time will tell!

We have seen teams such as the Philadelphia Eagles achieve more success in recent years, especially as they continue to grow in international popularity. Even ESPN and the NFL have joined in the fun, further bridging the gap between franchises and fans. If the Cowboys want to achieve success, having more backing certainly won’t hurt.
