Quick Recap: The Results Of The Houston Texans In Week 1-3 Of The NFL

The Houston Texans have had an exciting yet challenging start to the 2024 NFL season. From a thrilling last-minute victory in Week 1 to a crushing defeat in Week 3, the Texans have shown flashes of brilliance but also faced struggles in consistency. Let's take a quick look at how they fared in the first three weeks of the season.

Week 1: Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts

The Houston Texans kicked off their NFL season with an intense matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. In a high-scoring thriller, the Texans edged out a victory, defeating the Colts 29-27. Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud had a solid performance, throwing for 234 yards. He played a crucial role in leading the offense, showcasing his potential early in the season.

Despite the Texans’ offensive struggles in the running game, with no standout rushing leader, they were able to capitalize on the Colts’ defense with key plays. Wide receiver Nico Collins stood out, recording 125 yards, proving to be Stroud's go-to target. While the defense had trouble stopping the Colts’ run game, with Joe Mixon rushing for 159 yards, Houston's late-game resilience secured the win.

Week 2: Chicago Bears vs. Houston Texans

Coming off their Week 1 victory, the Texans faced the Chicago Bears in Week 2. This game was a low-scoring affair, but Houston managed to pull off another win, beating the Bears 19-13. C.J. Stroud continued his impressive start, throwing for 260 yards. His connection with Nico Collins once again proved pivotal, as Collins racked up 135 receiving yards.

While the Texans struggled to establish their rushing game, the defense managed to limit the Bears' offense, allowing only 13 points. Caleb Williams was held to just 44 rushing yards, and the Texans' defense stepped up when it mattered most, especially in the second half. Houston’s ability to grind out a win in a tough defensive battle highlighted their grit and determination.

Week 3: Minnesota Vikings vs. Houston Texans

The Texans hit their first roadblock of the season in Week 3, suffering a heavy 34-7 defeat at the hands of the Minnesota Vikings. Coming into this game, many analysts had pegged the Texans as underdogs, with the Houston Texans odds reflecting the challenge they faced against Minnesota’s well-rounded team. Houston's offense struggled to find its rhythm, with C.J. Stroud managing just 215 passing yards. The rushing game, once again, failed to make an impact, and the Texans couldn't keep up with Minnesota's dynamic offense.

Aaron Jones led the Vikings’ rushing attack with 102 yards, while Stefon Diggs dominated through the air, racking up 94 receiving yards. The Texans' defense appeared overwhelmed by the Vikings' balanced attack, and the offense couldn't muster any momentum throughout the game. The loss served as a humbling moment for Houston, revealing areas that need improvement on both sides of the ball.

Conclusion

Through the first three weeks of the season, the Houston Texans have shown promise but also significant areas for growth. They started strong with two wins but were quickly brought back down to earth with a tough loss in Week 3. C.J. Stroud has displayed encouraging signs as the team's young quarterback, while Nico Collins has emerged as a key player in the receiving corps. However, the Texans must address their struggles in the rushing game and tighten up defensively if they hope to build on their early-season success.
