Irving Mac cover girl Alexis Jones to sign hoops magazines Saturday
Irving MacArthur High School’s Alexis Jones graces the cover of the 2011-12 edition of RV Baugus TexPreps Basketball and will be at the Irving Mall Barnes and Noble bookstore from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday to sign for those who purchase the magazine.
Jones, a 5-foot-9 senior point guard considered to be one of the nation’s premier players, last year led Irving Mac’s Lady Cardinals to a 5A state title compliments a 74-51 blowout of a very good Georgetown squad. Jones emerged as the state tournament MVP thanks largely to a ridiculous 25-point, 11-rebound, 14-assist and 2-steal stat line in the title game. Her squad is favored to again capture the state crown in 2012.
Saturday’s Barnes and noble event will tip off with TexPreps Basketball namesake RV Baugus -- renowned for his expertise on Texas high school hoops -- talking to Suzie Oelschlegel, Jones’ coach at Irving Mac. The interview will focus on the challenges Oelschlegel’s squad faces this year in trying to repeat, and a transcript of the Q&A will later post on the texprepsbasketball.com website.
From about 3 to 5 p.m., Baugus will get Jones’ take on her basketball future and field any questions those in attendance may have about Irving MacArthur basketball and/or other Texas high school basketball programs. Spectators are also invited to ask questions of Jones, who will be present all three hours to sign magazines.
Jones, a former member of the USA’s under-18 team, has committed to play collegiately at Duke University. Her magazine signing Saturday coincides with a three-day book fair (Oct. 21-23) that the Irving Mall Barnes and Noble is hosting as a fundraiser for Jones’ high school.

The store has provided Irving MacArthur students vouchers that will return a percentage of book fair proceeds to the high school’s coffers.
