MacArthur's Alexis Jones Chooses Duke
Alexis Jones, senior at MacArthur High School, officially signed her letter of intent to play basketball next year at Duke University. The ceremony was held at the MacArthur basketball gym on November 11th.
The 5-foot-8 Jones was the Gatorade player of the year for the state of Texas last season and helped lead MacArthur to the Class 5A state championship. She averaged 24 points, 9.9 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 5 steals per game.
Alexis was also being recruited by Tennessee, Baylor and Texas A&M.
Duke head coach, Joanne P. McCallie, describes Alexis' talents, "With Alexis, she is one of the most athletic, diverse, crafty, attacking guards I’ve seen in a long time. She can play off the bounce beautifully, she’ll break down defenses and she breaks down a guard one-on-one better than anyone I’ve seen. She’s a smooth lefty relative to her three-point shot. I think she can help us tremendously with defense as well, but also with the up-tempo style and the transition style. She is very, very savvy."
Alexis' full name is Alexis Michelle Jones and was born May 8, 1994 in Midland, Texas to David Jones and Carla Saledon. She has two brothers, Anthony (27) and Andrew (13). Alexis' mom, Carla, was an All-America track athlete at Angelo State and Texas A&M, and was inducted into the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Athletes Hall of Fame in 2003.
