Motorcyclist Killed in Collision With 18-Wheeler in Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas - A 47-year-old motorcyclist was killed Saturday night after his motorcycle collided with an 18-wheeler in east Arlington, according to the Arlington Police Department.

Officers responded at approximately 9:13 p.m. on July 25 to the 3900 block of Avenue E East following reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and a tractor-trailer.

According to investigators, the driver of the 18-wheeler was attempting to turn left from a store parking lot onto Avenue E when a motorcycle traveling eastbound came around a curve in the roadway.

Police said the motorcycle struck the side of the 18-wheeler, ejecting both the rider and a female passenger.

The motorcyclist, identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office as 47-year-old Luis A. Mendez, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said Mendez was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The female passenger suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening and declined transportation to a hospital.

The driver of the 18-wheeler remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police said no criminal charges have been filed at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing.
