Irving Man Accused of Assaulting 7-Months-Pregnant Girlfriend, Blocking Her From Leaving Apartment

IRVING, Texas - A 24-year-old Irving man was arrested after police said he assaulted his pregnant girlfriend and prevented her from leaving a South Irving apartment during a domestic disturbance.

Darius LaKeith Mays was arrested  on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. 

Irving police responded around 8:20 a.m. to an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Rock Island Road.

According to the investigation, Mays and his 24-year-old girlfriend became involved in a physical altercation inside their apartment. The couple had been in a dating relationship for about four years, and the woman told police she was seven months pregnant with Mays' child.

Responding officers also noted that the woman visibly appeared pregnant.

Police said Mays became angry during the confrontation and began yelling while damaging furniture, walls and a door inside the apartment.

When the woman told Mays she was leaving, he went to the front door and blocked her from getting out, according to investigators. Police said Mays told her she could not leave.

The woman attempted to push past him to get through the door.

Investigators said Mays pushed her back and struck her in the mouth with the palm of his hand. The woman suffered swelling, a cut and pain on the right side of her lower lip.

She then punched Mays in the mouth, according to police. Mays moved out of the way, allowing her to leave the apartment.

Once outside, the woman called 911.

Police said Mays remained inside, where he continued yelling and damaging property. At one point, he punched a window and broke the glass, cutting his hand and arm.

Responding officers observed the injury to the woman's lower lip. They also reported finding damage throughout the apartment that was consistent with her account of what happened.

During questioning, Mays admitted that he blocked his girlfriend from leaving the apartment and pushed her during the confrontation, according to police.

When officers asked Mays whether he hi the victim in the face, he did not answer.

Officers took Mays into custody and transported him to the Irving Jail.  He was charged with Assault of Pregnant Person and Unlawful Restraint.  His bond was set at $25,500.  

On August 27th, Mays was transferred to the Dallas County Jail where he remains in-custody on a hold from the Collins County Sheriff's Office (CCSO).   That hold is related to a warrant for Criminal Mischief Between $750 and $2,500.
