Teen Charged With Manslaughter After Fatal High-Speed Crash in Grand Prairie

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - An 18-year-old Dallas man has been charged with manslaughter after police said he was speeding before a crash that killed an SUV driver in Grand Prairie on Sunday.

The collision happened at about 1:40 p.m. Sept. 13 in the 300 block of E. Jefferson Street.

According to the Grand Prairie Police Department, a Dodge passenger car was traveling east on Jefferson Street when it collided with a Ford SUV that was turning from westbound Jefferson onto SE 2nd Street.

The driver of the Ford, who was the SUV's only occupant, was taken to a hospital and later died.

The Dodge driver was also hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police identified the Dodge driver as Ernesto Esqueda, 18, of Dallas.

Traffic investigators reviewed surveillance video from nearby businesses and determined Esqueda was traveling at a high rate of speed before the collision, police said.

Esqueda was taken into custody and charged with manslaughter.   Grand Police Polcie say that he is still receiving medical treatment and has not been booked into jail yet. 

The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office is expected to release the identity of the driver who died after his family has been notified.
