Mesquite police responded to the crash around 3:17 a.m. Sept. 9 in the 21100 block of northbound I-635 near North Gross Road.

The initial investigation found that a white Alfa Romeo sedan struck the trailer of a slow-moving 18-wheeler, according to police.

The Alfa Romeo's driver, identified as Jose Aguilar Renteria, 36, of Dallas, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the driver of the 18-wheeler as Ulises Mendez Hernandez, 30, of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
